Bachelor Finale

I would first like to point out that this is the first time (I think ever) that I would be totally okay with whoever he picked.  Yes, this show is a train wreck, but I actually don't despise one of the final two picks!

The Finale:

Brad takes this time to let us know how "incredible" these two women are and how "strongly" he feels for both women.  He's so excited to see his family and has strategically placed himself on the balcony overlooking the ocean of South Africa awaiting his family.

Oh and what's this?  Out of the wood work comes Brad's family (literally).  Brad hugs his brothers first and starts to cry.  Pretty sweet.  But then, he like legit starts crying and has to take a breather so that he doesn't break down in to sobs.  Why isn't Dr. Jaime on-call for these moments when he's actually needed?!

Brad apologizes for feeling human emotions.  He lets us know that seeing family brought tears to his eyes (does he not know we have visual as well as audio??) and we catch a glimpse of Prima lookin' a little somber that he's ruined her afternoon cocktail.

His brother Chad (yes they're twins with rhyming names) asks him why this time is different.  Great question from the peanut gallery.

Brad: "I'm truly in it this time."  Well that's good to know.  I bet DeAnna is screaming at the television at this point in time.

Chad: "Do you see yourself proposing?"

Brad: "Truly, 100% proposing."  Now DeAnna is throwing things at the television.

Brad's excited to have his family around, because they 'truly' know him better than anyone on this planet.  Well, Brad, I would sure hope so.

Then there's a knock, knock, knock on the door.  Brad has to go meet "his woman".  He goes out to meet Chantal and lets her know who she'll be meeting.  His twin Chad and his wife Dillon, younger brother Wes and his wife Prima (stripper name) and mom Pam.

Channy Chan comes in for the family meet and greet and tells the age-old "I slapped him when we first met story" and tells them that she knew he was the one when she first saw him.

Chan opens up about her past to Pam and tells her that she thinks everything that's happened in her life has led her here.

Pam wants to know if she's ready for the show to be over and if she's ready for the real world.  Chan answers perfectly and says this is the hard part and she's so ready for the real world.  Pam and Channy exchange compliments back and forth about how wonderful each other are and I'm trying to keep my dinner from coming back up.

There's no sister in law grill session from what I can see, and Channy is sent on her way.  Brad let's us know that if it all works out, he will marry Chantal.  WHAT does that mean?!

The next day, the fam is sitting around waiting for round 2, and then there's a knock, knock, knock and Brad races off to go greet Emily.

Emily looks beautiful in her purple sundress.  She seems a little nervous to meet the family.  Brad reminds her that she's not shy, just private.

She comes in to meet everyone and Wes immediately picks up on Emily's reservedness and finds it slightly worrisome.  I'm moreso worried about his lack of sunscreen from yesterday.  Homeboy's lookin a little red...

They sit down to eat and the family learns about Emily and that she has a daughter.  Wes being a father himself knows it would be no easy thing to see your kid move across the nation to live with another guy.  He decides it's the right time to ask if Ricky's father is okay with her moving.

WHOOSH, that is the sound of all of the air being sucked out of the room, and then Brad awkwardly clears his throat because he's too far away to kick Wes in the shins.  Wes looks a little dumbfounded as to why things just got awkward.  Emily finally musters her courage and once again tells the heartbreaking story of her first love and Ricky's father.  Prima starts crying, and Wes looks like someone just punched him in the gut.

It's safe to say that Emily has at this moment won the Womacks.  Wes lets her know that if she marries Brad, it's kind of like marrying the whole family.  Emily thinks that sounds wonderful.

Next Pam and Emily have some time together.  Brad has some brotherly time to assess whether or not he's ready to jump in to fatherhood.  Brad sounds like a broken record: "I've thought about, no doubt I've thought about it."

Pam and Emily discuss how Brad is like her angel and has brought so much good in to her life.  I'm really concerned for her if Brad does not pick her...

It's time to say bye to Emily and then the Womacks have a team huddle.  Brad lets us know that it's time for his family to gather around to discuss his life.  Um, you're 38, can't you make your own decisions by now?!

The sisters finally pipe in with a weighted scale, you can either pick Chantal for lots of fun and excitement, or you can pick Emily and your social life dies and you get a mortgage.  But Chantal doesn't really get our world with kids and housekeeping, she's more the "night out" girl.  Em's the one they'd call for how to get a wine stain out of their man's shirt, or how to get your 6 year old to stop sucking their thumb (oh, wait.)

It's clear the Womacks are Team Emily.  Truly. 100%.  No doubt about it.  Truly

It's now time for the last dates he'll have with each woman.  Chan Chan shows up in some super short shorts and cleavage to her eyeballs.  Brad lets us know that he wants Chantal to show him why she's the one today.  No pressure.

The meet on a dock.  They get on a boat out in to the open water.  All seems dandy till we remember Chantal's extreme fear of open water.  Oh no worries, Brad just wants you to swim with sharks, no big deal.  She takes the challenge like a champ and they take the plunge.  Yes, Brad does make several cheesy references as to how this is similar to their relationship.  I'm bored.

Skip to their final night.  Chan writes Brad a nice letter spilling it all out there along with a handy map with their travels.  Brad basically pats on her the shoulder and says thanks.

Next up is his date with Emily.  Emily is hoping this is her last date as a single girl. They take a helicopter out to the southern most tip of Africa.  It's pretty windy and Brad seems to be in a mood.  They talk about what it's like to have a five year old and Em wants to know if he's ready for all of it.  Brad seems to be alone with his thoughts at this particular moment, which had to have been pretty awesome for Emily on their last date.

Skip to the evening, and Brad is on a mission.  He wants Em to know how he feels, no doubt about it.  He tells her he wants to be a father to Little Ricky.  Em wants to know what that means to him.  Burn.  Considering he had no father growing up and has no children of his own, how do you answer that question??  Brad says something about unconditional love, discipline, being a friend.  Em's not convinced, she wants examples.  I mean, I don't blame her.  She wants to know that he knows what he's in for.  No more football and a beer whenever you want.  Brad gets ticked.  Truly.  And has to walk away in search for water.  He finally comes back, Emily apologizes and Brad bolts out of there like a bat out of hell.

Brad is questioning their relationship.  I'm questioning.  Why can't he answer these hard questions?!  And why is he surprised that it's hard for a single mom to let someone in and trust them?!  C'mon Brad!!

Everyone's pondering how they feel.  It's the big day.  Confession, I FF'ed to the rings.  This was getting real boring for me.  Neil Lane has to realize that his brand worth goes down with each passing failed season of the Bachelor right?!  Brad picks a ring and takes a mental snapshot of what it's going to be like to place it on the lucky girls finger.

Channy picks her signature grayish/black gown with a serious up-do.  The dress actually was flattering and I kinda liked it.  Although there was some serious flowers/feathers springing from the shoulder.  Em opts for the peachy/white rouched gown and half up-do.

They're off in the limos but WHO will it be to show up first?!

CHANTAL!
I have to admit, I did NOT see this coming.  Harrison meets her to fulfill his contractual obligations and walks her down to meet Brad.  Brad talks in circles about their chemistry, how she's so wonderful and expressive with her feelings...but yeah, I like Emily better.

Chantal's bubble literally bursts right then and there and Brad must walk her to the limo.  Honestly, I was speechless because I was fairly certain (especially after last night) that Em was going home.  Brad like a doof asks her if she's okay, um what is someone supposed to say here?  Uh no, you basically told me I'm ugly and you like someone else more.  No, I'm not okay.  Brad secures her in to the limo and they take off down the dirt path.

I was hoping Brad might pull a Mesnick, but it's kind of creepy how easy it was for him to shake it off and prepare to see Emily.  He wants to studder and stammer his way through asking her to be his wife.

Emily arrives and makes her way down to the podium.  Brad says this isn't the first time she's taken his breath away and that she looks amazing.  Em says thanks and that she likes his suit.  Then we get to the REAL good lines:

"You're so much more than a leap of faith, you're a once in a lifetime.  Please give me your forever."

I've honestly never seen a more sincere Brad.  Em acts like this is the third or fourth time she's heard this in her life and it's lost it's shock appeal.  She doesn't even cry at the proposal.  She just says she's the happiest girl in the world.  I don't know if she's had her whole face botoxed or what, but I'm just not seeing the raw emotions...

This unfortunately equals disaster.  The AFTR was painful.  Apparently Channy has moved on and is happy with a new guy.  I think this chick falls in love every 5 minutes.  Em has opted for the low lights coupled with raw venom to spit at the Bachelor.  I don't have a great feeling that these two will make it and I doubt you do either.

How about getting a real couple's counselor instead of the three successful couples out of 25 seasons to spew their nonsense of relationship wisdom ABC?  Em obviously has some bitterness and resentment that her boyfriend was cheating on her on a reality dating show, and Brad seems to have a temper problem.  She needs to learn how to not "poke the bear" apparently.

Here's to hoping they make it at least 6 months...

Until next time.

Comments/Observations from the Women Tell All: Or what I could gather from having to hide from awkwardness

*Also known as a huge waste of time...

Thanks to our mini-recap before the show even began, it's fairly obvious that Chantal has had one too many sugary cocktails this season...

"I liked the fangs."  Really Brad?

"She had game.  I'm a man that can be blindsided by beauty."  Yeah, if you're in to psychos.

Then we had a lovely PG-13 preview of the Bachelor Pad hopefuls and cast-offs.  Ashleigh is apparently the token Pad slut.  Watching her and Craig makeout made me want to vom-it.  Vienna lost her extensions.  Roz is wearing underwear, which is good because Wes told her he wanted to look up her skirt.  Apparently Vienna follows "skank rules" because she hooked up with Wes behind Gia's back.  I'd like to see a copy of the said skank rules...ABC should be real proud of the Bachelor "family" it's dysfunction after dysfunction.  I would like to see a dating reality series of Casey and Erika though.

Ashley H. looks terrible with brown hair and red lipstick.  And she was a nasty shade of brown.  Should have gone a few shades lighter in the spray tan.  Bacon doesn't look good on anyone.

How many times can Marissa say "mesh" in 2 minutes?  10?  15?

Apparently Michelle DID give herself the black eye.

"Can I just say, as a host, this is a buffet." Harrison

Michelle looks concerned.  Is she crying? Like for real?

Jackie was all up in her biz.  Did she take some pointers from Regina George during the taping?

Ashley's crying too?  What is this??

"I was here for the right reasons.  I left my daughter"  Even though you seem to have forgotten your daughter's name halfway through the season.

The other Michelle is cra-zy.  Still can't get over the pizza story in the middle of her meltdown.

"Michelle, you were frazzled, you were frantic, and you freaked everybody out." -RaIchel.

Michelle needs to go film a lifetime movie.  Is she crying so she doesn't have to answer any questions??

Chris Harrison literally blows the whistle on Stacey.  Maybe my fav moment.  This is getting vicious.  The other girls are literally foaming at the mouth to get a piece of Michelle.  I'm concerned.

"Jackie, you called me a spider!!"-Michelle.  Is this really what you're worried about?!

"She was just totally aggressive, I couldn't even watch." -Jackie

Harrison: "You had a problem with it.  Brad didn't have a problem with it.  Is this really the problem?"  Harrison-1, Jackie-0

Hayley: Why is this a therapy session?!  Why are we dissecting Ashley's failure to land a boyfriend?

Harrison to the other Ashley: "It was magic.  Why'd you screw it up?  Is this your defense mechanism?"  How many times is the good ole "defense mechanism" excuse going to be thrown around.  How about just calling it what it is, she's a commitment phobe that's obsessed with herself and succeeding!!!

Side note: It really bugs me how the dentist talks with her hands all up in the camera.  She can't even say the word "love"

Brad: "I promised my other half that I would only be halfway excited to see all of you." -He had to have picked Chantal.  She's the only one insecure and crazy enough to say something like that...

"Who is this?"  Brad to "Ash 1".  That's what I'm wondering.  There was a semi-cute girl in there at one point.  At least she got bangs to cover her forehead.

Brad about Michelle: "I'll defend you till I'm blue in the face."-I'd like to see that actually...

Henna Preschool.  Cute kids, but I kinda wanted to fast forward through this montage.  Good thing I didn't because I would have missed Harrison and his ball skills.

"I'm trulier happier than I've ever been." -Oh, Brad

Harrison:  "Good cause you're not getting a third chance."

America: Thank God!

Bachelor Recap: "We Can't Build A Future Off a Great Carnival Date"

So, we start off this episode with Brad tying his lil Grey Keds.  How cute.  He then steps out on the balcony of his NYC pad to look pensive and reflect on the three women remaining.
Here's what I gathered:
-Chantal=Chemistry=Roller coaster of emotions
-Ashley's family sounds like a gaggle of chimpanzees at the zoo
(Brad's reflection on Ashley should be accompanied by none other than Kelly Clarkson's Where is Your Heart)
-He's a better Brad around Emily.

On to the most interesting part of this entire episode, South Africa and all it's wonder.  Baby monkeys are adorable.
Chantal gets the first one on one time, and we notice that as time passes, she continues to swell.  Brad shows up in the safari jeep looking like Indiana Jones, except he's wearing Teva's, so he's the chach-ey version of Indy.  Chantal's like o.m.g. we're on a safari and we're seeing animals, this is so cool.  I'm like, yeah that's the point...and mind you, you could find all of these at the local Seattle Zoo I'm sure.
Brad: "I think all relationships need some risk and conquering fears."  Brad, how many times are you going to say that this season?  I'm pretty sure most, if not all, relationships would be suited just fine without rappelling off buildings/waterfalls and/or going on African safaris, let's face it.
Brad: "Is it weird to say I miss your dad family?"
Chantal: No, not at all.
Hayley: Yes, that is weird.  You met them for like 10 minutes, and you met 3 other families that you equally "miss".
Chantal: "I'm hoping that tonight I can prove my love for Brad."  Does she mean, sing it from the rooftops?  Something sacrificial?
Later at dinner, Brad hands Chantal the Fantasy Suite Card:
Chantal: "I think we should go, I think we should hurry.  What happens in the fantasy suite stays in the fantasy suite."  You stay classy Chantal.  Let's hope your "fantasy" was a night in the wild up in a tree house.
On the other hand, it was nice to hear that some people on this show have an accurate view of what it is to be engaged.

Next is Emily's one on one time.
Brad: "I've been counting the seconds until I get to see Emily."  Yikes, was the tree house that boring?
Brad shows up to greet Emily, who looks like Safari Barbie, then tells her he forgot something and needs to go get it.  He'll be right back.
Emily: Brad left me alone in the wild.  I'm like you've had all daggone day to get ready for this date...a lion may come eat me"  Hilarious.
Brad makes it up to her by surprising her with an elephant rider.  Emily says this is her dream date.  Yes, if you're joining the circus.  *However, I have ridden an elephant with my sweetie and it was pretty fantastic.
Brad: "I wish Lil Ricky was here.  I sure do miss her"
Emily: "Oh my gosh, Ricky Tick would just love this"  Yeah, who wouldn't.  I'm not even 5 and I would love it.
Emily: "Are you ready for a five-year-old?"
Brad: "I'm ready, I want to be a daddy"
They kiss, the animals go wild.  Might as well have started playing Can You Feel the Love Tonight in the background.
Next, at dinner, Brad once again flubs all over his words, and Emily plans to tell him she's falling for him but chickens out.
Brad nervously hands Emily the Fantasy Suite Card and visibly cringes as she reads each word.
Emily says she's a mommy and a role model, but they can stay up all night talking.  Brad looks a little deflated, but glad he at least gets more time.
Emily tells us she needed to go to the Fantasy Suite to get the courage to tell him how she feels.  However, she has only said ILY to one person in her life and it scares her to death.
Emily: "I don't want you to question anything with me."
Brad: "You don't" NO dip-wad, that's what she just said....
Emily: "No"
Finally, Emily tells Brad that she's falling in love with him, and Brad once again goes rogue and SAYS IT IN RETURN!!  Next, the lights go out and we assume they are still talking.

Next up is Ashley.  Brad lets us know that he misses "Ash" badly.  Like everyone else?
Ashley rolls up in a jeep and obviously is missing the other half of her shorts, as these are clearly j-underwear...and a too-long cardigan and coral top tucked in.  Seriously, did she get dressed in the dark?
Brad greets her and leads her to none-other than a waiting helicopter.  Ashley freaks out, wrangles free from Brad's grip and starts run-ning in the other direction screaming.  Seriously, what is wrong with her?  Finally she comes back.  Brad is concerned.  I'm concerned because she looks like she might vomit.  She needs to stop screaming.
Ashley: "Is this real life"  I don't know, have you seen David and the Dentist?
Finally she takes a leap of faith and gets in the helicopter.  The scenery is amazing.
They land at God's window, which is fitting because these two could not be more incompatible.
Brad: "Where do you want to live?"
Ashley: "I dunno, I thought about some place warm, but now I'm thinking Southern Maine could be an option.  Close to my sister."
Brad looks like someone punched him in the stomach
Ashley: "I know what you want and what I have to offer."  Do you really?
Brad: "Maybe I can help you find a balance?!"  That's doubtful
Ashley: "This conversation is a huge wake up call."  Yeah, every relationship has to leave fantasy land at some point...
Brad is basically going to make dinner a grilling session.
Ashley: "I want to be superwoman."  Is this chick for real?  Is she just completely ignorant to everything that comes out of her mouth??
Brad: "We talk about ourselves individually, but never together."
Ashley: "Good things are just bonuses.  I'm all about compromise on the bad things."
Brad in response: "But do you realize that I asked you where you wanted to live and you never once mentioned Austin?
Ashley in response: "Well when you asked it was more about the people that are there."
Brad: HELLO: "I'm in Austin"
Ashley: BACKTRACKING: "Well yeah I'd totally love to go there.  That's not even a compromise to me."  Really???
Brad: "Maybe I just misunderstand you."  NO, SHE'S ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!!
Brad: Best line of the night: "We can't build a future based on a great carnival date"  THANK YOU
Ashley: Second best line of the night: "I feel like we have this great chemistry, and you're just looking for a wife that fits what you want."  WELL DUH, that's the whole freaking point of the show ASH!
For some strange reason, Brad extends her the Fantasy Suite Card, and she says absolutely.  She continues to down the booze and say really stupid stuff like, "We had so much, we can still have so much."
Finally, they run out of things to talk about and Ashley asks him his opinion on mosquito nets.  And Brad's like, for real?  Who cares about mosquito nets.  The cuddle on the couch, no one says a word.  This is by far the most awkward date I have ever had to witness in my life.  Do we even need a rose ceremony?  Send her home now...
Brad thinks he ruined things by asking her some hard questions.  I'm sorry, but if you're really going to propose to someone, these ARE the questions you should be asking.
Rose Ceremony
Harrison: "It's been well documented that you've been down this road before."  Sorry, that made me laugh.  What an awkward way to put it Harrison.
Brad finally goes out to meet the women and is all sorts of flustered, and says okay about 4 times, before asking to speak with Ashley privately.
Brad: "Here's a woman I could propose to in a week and I don't know if I fit in your life."  Does he not get the contradiction of this?!  Really?
They have yet another terrible conversation and many "miscommunications".  Why Ashley thinks they can work it out is beyond me.  Brad tells her he needs to send her home now.  They walk to the car, they share an awkward hug and she gets in the car to go.  In my opinion, Ashley gave up like 3 or 4 episodes ago.
Brad to the other ladies: "I respect Ashley too much to put her through a rose ceremony knowing I'm not giving her a rose. "  Umm so what about every other rose ceremony, Brad?  Are you just fine disrespecting the other ladies??  So confused by him right now.
Closing thoughts: Brad and Ashley are two peas in a pod.  I don't think this season's going to end well for him either.  He clearly has issues.
